As you age it is quite normal to develop wrinkles on your face, particularly around your eyes, on your forehead and your nasal labial folds. Wrinkles will also develop on other parts of your body. Typically the areas most commonly affected are those that are have been most exposed to sunlight.

These include your hands, face and décolleté. If you maintain a good diet, regular exercise and an effective skin maintenance regime this will help stem the development of wrinkles, but there are also a number of quick, simple and safe treatments that can help reduce and eliminate your wrinkles once they do appear.

Treatments include:

Facial wrinkle reduction injections

Dermal fillers

Obagi skin care

Intense pulsed light skin rejuvenation

Why do wrinkles appear?

It’s a complex process, but put simply as you age your skin becomes thinner, dryer, less elastic and the collagen that supports the dermal layer reduces. Wrinkles tend to appear on your face as a result of three main reasons; loss of volume and elasticity and creases that develop from muscles movement.

Your crease wrinkles can appear in various places on your face, but most typically appear on your forehead, upper lip or around your eyes. Over time as your skin looses its elasticity your skin will begin to crease like a piece of paper that has been folded. Like a piece of paper even when you open it up and flatten your skin out the crease will remain.

Other types of wrinkle include

  • Atrophic Crinkling Rhytids or fine lines and are associated with loss of elasticity
  • Dynamic Expression lines resulting from muscle movement
  • Gravitational folds – as the name implies are a result of gravity and occur as your skin becomes thinner and your dermal and subcutaneous layers loose volume.
