Hyperhidrosis is a condition that isn’t about sweating after physical exertion. If you’re one of those people who have permanently damp, clammy hands, soaking armpits or sweaty feet and it doesn’t particularly smell, you probably suffer from Hyperhidrosis. The great news is that it can be treated quite simply and Brigstock Skin and Laser offer a couple of treatments for you.

If you have problems and:

You feel embarrassed raising your arms because you reveal wet patches on your clothes

Holding hands with your partner is something to be avoided as you are self-conscious about your clammy hands

Applying makeup is impossible using your fingertips as the dampness means it won’t go on smoothly

You worry about your sweaty feet and whether other people are aware of them – and always carry spare tights or socks.

Iontophoresis uses the ions in ordinary tap water and a low level electrical current (don’t worry it’s totally safe) to disturb your sweat glands and over a period of time reduce the amount of sweat they produce.

As everyone is different your treatment schedule will be tailored to your needs.  It’s recommended that you start with up to two 20 minute treatments a week in the first month, then less frequently just enough to keep your sweat glands operating normally.

The treatment feels like a warm, tingle – similar to pins and needles – the results are life-changing.

Iontophoresis is very affordable – and, if your sweaty hands, feet or armpits are causing you stress, worth exploring.

Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum Toxin is better known for its cosmetic use to smooth out lines on the face, but it is effective in a number of medical applications too.  One of these is to reduce sweating and it’s particularly effective for treating underarms.

Botox is licensed by the MRHA to be used for treating axillary hyerhidrosis (that’s the medical term for over-productive sweat glands) and the treatment takes just a few minutes.  It takes a little longer for the effects to kick in – usually within a couple of weeks and there’s no down time, you can go right back to your normal routine after the treatment.

The effects last for between 4-6 months so most people plan 2-3 treatments each year.  You’ll be able to say goodbye to those uncomfortable situations where you’re self-conscious about visible sweat patches.
