How much does laser hair removal cost?

You’re keen to have laser hair removal treatment – but what’s it going to cost?
People often say you get what you pay for, and this is true for laser hair removal as with most other services. You want your treatment to work and give you the results you’re looking for.

The number of hair removal treatments you need will depend on a variety of factors such as the area you want treated. For example, there’s quite a difference between hair removal from your lips and hair removal from your legs! You may have thick hair, or fine hair, dark skin or light skin. These factors all play a part.

How many sessions?

As a general rule, you will need 6 to 8 sessions to get the best results and make a real and permanent difference. After this, you may need an occasional top up (to find out why please take a look at our top up article).
The cost of an individual treatment will depend on the location of the clinic, the experience of the clinicians and the equipment used.

Discounts and packages

For a series of treatments, you should expect a discount or tailored package. As an example, Brigstock Skin & Laser offers packages of three, or an unlimited package (for sessions within 18 months). Other clinics offer discounts for courses of 6 or 8 treatments.
Another option to look for is a payment plan. Much like any payment plan, whether you’re buying a sofa or a TV, you can choose a schedule to suit you. Often this will be 6 months or 12 months, as your laser hair removal treatments will potentially fit within this timescale. Again, like most payment plans you might expect to pay a small premium to facilitate use of the service, and you will be tied into the contract.
Some clinics may charge a minimum price but add extra fees on top, whilst others charge a flat rate – so make sure you ask. It’s useful to remember that reputable clinics will offer you a free patch test and consultation to talk through what you want to achieve, how many treatments this is likely to need, and what packages and discounts are available. You don’t have to book a course there and then, instead, you can think about it before committing.

How long is a treatment?

To give you an example of how long a treatment might take using a fast machine like the Soprano Titanium, these are some of the most commonly treated areas:
• Upper lip: 2 to 3 minutes
• Chin: 5 to 10 minutes
• Face: 15 to 20 minutes
• Bikini line: 15 to 20 minutes
• Full legs: 30 to 40 minutes

Older, more traditional machines can take considerably longer and may take up to twice the time depending on the actual machine used. And of course, the size of the area treated influences these timings. If you have particularly long legs they will take a little longer to treat too.

Why is one clinic better than another?

You can always shop around – we’re all used to doing that these days. But what’s more important than the cost is the results. You may pay less, but your treatment might not last, and worst-case scenario you could find yourself having to start all over again.

That’s one reason why it’s so important to choose a clinic that is willing to guarantee your results and your satisfaction with those results. Clinics that offer this type of guarantee must invest in both their equipment and their technicians. Often it is the technicians’ skill and experience that ensures they can get the very best out of the machine they are using and are able to deliver what they say they will deliver.
