Quick and easy suggestions to prolong that summer skin glow

With the weather changing and the Autumn months fast approaching, we’re not only waving goodbye to the sunshine but also that healthy natural glow we get from taking in a few UV rays. And with many of us starting to return back to our normal pre-corona routines, dropping the children off at school, meeting up with friends for a Sunday brunch and returning back to our offices, we thought we’d provide you with some quick and easy suggestions on how to maintain your healthy and radiant looking skin.

Microdermabrasion

At this time of year, approaching the end of summer, microdermabrasion is one of the best treatments to consider to give your skin a refreshing boost. It’s quick, easy and provides instant results without any downtime. The micro-crystals used in the treatment effectively remove the summer build-up of damaged skin cells that cause some pigmentation problem. During your treatment, this build-up is removed encouraging better cellular renewal whilst stimulating your skin’s blood circulation. This, in turn, improves the overall texture and elasticity of your skin, reducing wrinkles and giving your skin a refreshing radiant glow.

Obagi treatments
The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a fantastic treatment that you can do before any important meeting or function. The treatment is a light chemical peel that improves your skin tone, reduces your pore sizes and leaves your skin feeling firmer, fresher and brighter. It’s designed to take effect immediately and has practically no downtime so you can benefit from the effects of the treatment that same evening. Your treatment takes about 45 minutes and is most effective as a series of 4 to 6 sessions although one treatment session is enough to ensure, as the name implies, your skin looks instantly radiant. Many of the other Obagi treatments are designed to transform your skin over a period of many months. They do however start to take effect almost immediately and within a couple of weeks, you will see a significant change. Some products will induce peeling, but with careful management and regular application of the Obagi specialist moisturisers, you will see noticeable improvements within just a couple of weeks.

Wrinkle-reducing injections and fillers
Wrinkle-reducing injections normally take around a week to 10 days to take full effect. It’s an ideal treatment if you have fine lines and wrinkles you’re looking to get rid of. Done in the right way it can give your face a lift so that you look well-rested and refreshed. For deeper crease wrinkles you might want to consider dermal fillers. These take effect immediately although the initial inflammation you experience directly after your injections will subside after a day or two. Done well, dermal fillers can have a dramatic effect, immediately enhancing the way you look and feel and are a great way to quickly enhance your appearance.

Diet
Diet is so important. The health of your skin is a direct reflection of your internal health. You understand this intuitively whenever you meet somebody who is ill and note that they look ashen. Fruits and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants essential for the clearance of your cellular waste products or free radicals and a recent small study also suggested that increasing your intake of fruit and vegetables can improve your skin colouration in a way that actually makes us look more attractive. Reducing grains based foods like wheat, rice and pasta with vegetables will not only improve your skin health but also help control your weight.  Drinking plenty of water is also important to ensure your skin is well hydrated. Herbal teas, green tea or white tea (without milk) are excellent alternatives to plain water. The added advantage of green and white tea and many herbal teas is the high level of antioxidants they contain. Of course, added sugar should be avoided with all drinks as should fruit juices as in many ways their high fructose content can be worse than pure sugar alone. Intermittent fasting also helps to remove your body’s cellular junk or free radicals. Reducing your calorific intake to 500 calories a day for women and 600 for men once or twice weekly stimulates a process called autophagy. This natural detox process is known to slow down as we age. Stimulating it through fasting helps improve our skin tone and helps reduce wrinkles by improving your skin’s elasticity and collagen production.

Collagen stimulation
There are a number of established collagen stimulation techniques including Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Dermaroller. Collagen is an important component of your skin that improves elasticity and volume.  Dermaroller is one of Dr Vajpeyi’s preferred collagen stimulation techniques. The derma roller instrument itself is a roller with a series of microneedles attached. After applying local anaesthetic the derma roller is applied over your chosen treatment area. This micro-needling stimulates your body’s natural repair process, which includes the production of collagen. Best results are achieved by having 3 treatment sessions; 1 every 6 weeks. However, you will notice improvements to your skin following your first session.  IPL works in a similar way to micro-needling by stimulating your body’s natural repair process. The main difference is that the controlled trauma is delivered through the use of pulses of light. The energy of the light is sufficient to initiate the repair of the skin, but the frequency of light used ensures that only the lower dermal layers of the skin are treated leaving the surface of your skin unaffected.
