How to get the best value from your treatment

When you decide you want to try aesthetic treatments, how can you make sure that you are spending your hard earned cash in the most cost-effective way?

Many treatments, such as laser hair removal, wrinkle reduction and skincare systems need more than one clinic visit or product. Laser hair removal, for example, requires between 6 to 8 treatments to be effective for the longer-term. Wrinkle reduction is temporary and if you want to maintain your look, you’ll need to have further treatments usually about three months after your first. Prescription-only skincare systems do not have the same price tags as high street products.

So when you start these types of treatment you’ll be making a financial investment in yourself. And there are two key things you’ll need to ask yourself:

  1. Will the treatment actually work?
  2. Am I getting the best value for money?

Let’s take a look at these two questions in more depth.

  1. Will the treatment work?

Nothing is instant

Most people these days are a little cynical about ‘miracle’ products and treatments that suggest you’ll see an instant difference. They’d be correct! A qualified dermatologist or an experienced technician will tell you that you’ll need to be patient and stick with your treatment for the recommended period before you will gain the full benefit.

Results guarantee

Some clinics provide a results guarantee. What this means is that they believe that the treatments they recommend to you will actually work. A guarantee like this may offer free ongoing treatment if you don’t see results within the specified period of time, and your money back if you are still not satisfied. What is important to remember is that to qualify for the guarantee you must follow the bespoke treatment plan and advice you’ve been given at the start.

Experience

Never underestimate how much difference the experience of a clinic’s staff will make to the success of your treatment. Whether they are operating a laser machine, evaluating dark patches on your skin or assessing the type of wrinkles or scars you would like to see reduced, experience counts!

  1. Am I getting the best value?

Let’s take a look at how you can be sure you’re getting the best value too.

Book a series of appointments

The least cost effective method is to book single appointments as you go along. If you look at any clinic’s website they usually show prices for a single treatment, as well as prices for pre-booking two or three treatments. To show you what we mean, our price for skin needling for a single (full face) session is £289, but if you book three the cost is £705, equating to £235 per session. Microdermabrasion (classic) is £299 for a single session, or £829 for three, equating to around £276 per session *

There is often even better value if you book a whole series of treatments, such as our ongoing offer for laser hair removal where clients can receive unlimited treatments over 18 months. For more information take a look at our fees page.

Take a look at bundles

Some clinics offer ‘bundles’, which are basically packages of treatments put together for you. These not only save money but have been formulated to provide the ideal treatment for a skin issue. So if you are looking to tackle pigmentation problems, the bundle will include particular treatments and products to help you achieve your aims. Bundles often come at different levels. To help with comparisons, we provide a ‘Standard’ bundle (for pigmentation at £439) all the way through to a ‘Premier’ bundle (for pigmentation at £1,779)* Click here to find out more.

Sign up for occasional offers

Finally, clinics are pretty good at offering special deals and seasonal discounts. Sometimes these are only available when you sign up for an email newsletter, but some also publish offers on their social media platforms or websites (examples here). So it’s worth doing a little research.

Comparisons

There are so many clinics to choose from, all offering different prices, bundles, packages, discounts – so where do you start?

Location and hours are important and will depend on the type of treatment you are looking for. Is it something that can be done during your lunch break, or do you need recovery time afterwards, in which case it would be better to have your treatment after work at a clinic near your home. BSL info

Reviews are always worth looking at. Clinics will post reviews on their website but it’s also a good idea to look at Google reviews or other independent review sites. This also allows you to see how a clinic responds to negative comments, if at all. A good clinic will try to address the issues of an unhappy client. Every clinic knows that your opinion counts, and a referral from a client to a friend or family member is worth its weight in gold. BSL reviews

Knowledge is power! Research the experience of clinic staff, but also have a look to see what information the clinic publishes online. Blogs, like this one, can help you to make decisions. BSL blogs

Free consultations are provided by professional clinics who are keen to work with you from the start to give you the results you want in the most effective and cost-efficient way. Even if that means steering you away from your idea of what treatment you want, to one that they know will work. BSL free consultation
