Electrolysis Pre-treatment

Now you’ve booked your first appointment to visit the Brigstock Skin & Laser Clinic you’ll probably be excited or maybe a little anxious about what comes next.

We’re really looking forward to helping you to be proud of your skin.

Important information

You can’t have Electrolysis if:

  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding
  • You have Hepatitis, HIV, active dermatitis or active herpes simplex (cold sores)
  • You have electronic implants such as heart monitors, pacemakers, etc.
  • You have bruising, recent scarring, cuts or abrasions in the treatment area
  • You are taking Roaccutane/Accutane (an oral acne treatment) or have taken it within the last year
  • You cannot have treatment on your hands, feet or lower legs if you are diabetic.

Preparing for treatment

To get the best results from your treatment your preparation makes a real difference so to ensure your skin is in perfect condition for your session please follow this advice:

  • Ensure you have not waxed, plucked, threaded or used depilatory creams for 4 weeks prior to your treatment
  • If you have dry skin use exfoliating face wipes on the areas to be treated. This ensures the skin around the hair follicles is softer and easier for the Electrolysis needle to enter the follicle
  • Drink at least 1 ½ to 2 ½ litres of water every day. This is the recommended minimum to keep the body healthy and will increase the moisture content of the skin. More moisture in the skin means less power is needed to destroy the follicle and the more comfortable the experience, less trauma to skin and so a quicker time for the skin to recover.
  • Get 8 hours sleep for at least a couple of days before your treatment. Clients often report that lack of sleep lowers their pain threshold and has increased their discomfort during treatment.
  • Don’t take any caffeine (tea, coffee, cola or caffeine-based sweets) on the day of treatment as this will magnify any discomfort you may feel
  • Eat before you come for your appointment. Low blood sugar can increase sensitivity (that means it will hurt more!)
  • Allow plenty of time to get to your appointment – adrenaline rushing through your system will stimulate your nervous system and make the treatment uncomfortable.
  • Please ensure your skin is clean and free of cosmetics, lotions and creams in the treatment area when you arrive for your appointment.

What to expect

During electrolysis a very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle and the hair is removed with tweezers. You may feel a stinging sensation whilst the treatment is in progress. This can be eased by the application of a local anaesthetic cream, but this will need to be applied 20-30 minutes before your treatment so you may need to arrange to come early.

Your technician will explain the procedure before you start and will answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to seeing you and please do call us on 020 8683 7630 if you have any questions.
