Be like Priyanka Chopra Jonas – embrace your natural skin texture! SKINclusion from Obagi

You may have seen that Priyanka Chopra Jonas is partnering with Obagi for its SKINclusion campaign. So what’s this all about?

Priyanka is a glamorous Indian actress, model, and singer married to the gorgeous Nick Jonas and new mum to baby Malti. In an interview with Marie Claire in February 2021 she says that growing up she believed dark skin was not pretty and tried to make her skin lighter, such as applying talcum powder! She has now learnt to celebrate her natural skin texture saying in October 2021 in Us Magazine: “It’s been a revelation. I’m now comfortable in my own skin and I can work with brands that are about individuality and expressing yourself.”

Step up Obagi! The SKINclusion campaign is the next step for Obagi, who in May 2019 made a commitment to elevate the global dialogue about diversity and inclusion, starting the conversation to spark actions that are more inclusive.

The global awareness initiative celebrates diversity and inclusion, promoting the acknowledgement of unconscious biases. This is where we unconsciously view and treat other people according to stereotype, background, culture and personal experiences, something most of us do.

Obagi is rightly proud of its 30-year legacy of providing effective, science-based skin care products for all skin tones. It was the first professional skincare company to specifically design clinical research protocols to include all six Fitzpatrick skin types.

What does this mean? Well, the Fitzpatrick Scale (founded in 1975 by Thomas B. Fitzpatrick) is widely used to describe the most common tanning behaviour of various skin types, categorising them into six. It can help you find the best suited skincare products for your skin.

Fitzpatrick Skin Type 1 (I)
Skin Type I is the palest in skin colour, typically with freckles, and always burns, never tanning when exposed to the sun.
Fitzpatrick Skin Type 2 (II)
Skin Type II will minimally tan, but usually burns.
Fitzpatrick Skin Type 3 (III)
Skin Type III will tan uniformly, sometimes resulting in mild sun burn.

Fitzpatrick Skin Type 4 (IV)
Skin Type IV tans well, is moderately brown in colour and minimally burns.

Fitzpatrick Skin Type 5 (V)
Skin Type V rarely burns and tans very easily, typically dark brown in colour.

Fitzpatrick Skin Type 6 (VI)
Skin Type VI never burns and is deeply pigmented dark brown to darkest brown
in colour.

Even within this scale, our skin is unique. Everyone has a different skin type, tone and concerns.
